Funny Trip
Years Active: 2019 – PRESENT
Funny Trip is a Japanese folk quartet formed by banjo player Akira Tamura. This 4-piece roots music band from Tokyo pulls inspiration from American musicians like Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, along with Japanese musicians Wataru Takada and Maki Asakawa. Their unique interpretations of folk, blues, gypsy, chanson, etc, are like music encountered in an unknown land.
“With no final destination in mind, our ‘Funny Trip” continues,” Akra Tamura states.
Not only is Akira Tamura the banjo player and singer, he also composes the music and lyrics, along with arranging all the songs. The rest of the band includes Yuri on fiddle, Kato-King on mandolin, and Shoji Uno on wood bass.
