Founded by Ted Sterns in 1996, 13th Street Entertainment was started to help long-time friend Kevin K produce and distribute his music, along with returning as his road manager, after Kevin’s band Road Vultures disbanded. The label went on to further help Ted’s musician friends in Japan by promoting their music in the United States. In 2006, Ted Sterns discontinued the label and production company.
In 2021, Ted began to acquire all the master tapes from Kevin’s days with his bands Aunt Helen, The Toys/New Toys, Lone Cowboys, and Road Vultures to digitize them for posterity. Having found the 2″ master tapes of both The Toys 1979 Maxwell Studio session and the 1982 Mark Recording Studio session for New Toys to be in reasonably good condition, he decided to restart his record label and release them. Both studio recordings for the first time are on CD, restored, and fully remixed and remastered. Thus, 13th Street Entertainment was reborn as 13th Street Records. In addition to producing and releasing music, 13th Street Records has a publishing extension to the business as Studio13 NYC Publishing.
13th Street Records is currently working on several projects, including a home demo tape from the late Michael Thimrén (Swedish punk rock guitarist of Bitch Boys and Johnny Thunders’ band) that was originally done for 13th Street Entertainment. And reissuing the Dots 1986 live album, 15 Songs, 15 Stories.
Recently, Ted has worked with singer/songwriter Christina Custode to produce a demo CD and Paul MacArthur on his albums Call Me: A Tribute to Sinatra, Bennett & Cole, and his upcoming release It’s Real.
